Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how MD Reader (the “App”, “we”, or “us”), an app by Natural Apps, handles information when you read and edit Markdown files. MD Reader is built to keep your content private: it works with local files you choose, it does not require an account or sign-in, and its AI assistant runs entirely on your device. By using MD Reader you agree to this policy.

Your Documents Stay on Your Device

MD Reader opens and edits Markdown files (for example .md and .markdown) that you choose from Finder, the Files app, or your storage. The contents of those documents stay on your device. We do not upload, copy, or store your documents on MD Reader or Natural Apps servers, and we do not transmit them to any third party. You remain in full control of where your files are saved.

No Account Required

MD Reader does not require you to create an account, sign in, or provide personal details to read and edit your Markdown files. There is no login, and we do not build a profile of you to use the App's core features.

On-Device AI Assistant

MD Reader's optional AI assistant runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence (Apple's on-device Foundation Models). When you ask the assistant to generate or format Markdown, your document text and your AI prompts are processed locally on your Mac or iPhone. This information is not sent to MD Reader or Natural Apps servers, and it is not sent to any third-party AI service. There are no API keys to configure and no cloud AI calls.

• Local processing: prompts and document text are handled by Apple's on-device model.
• No external AI servers: nothing is forwarded to us or to any external AI provider.
• Availability: the AI assistant requires a device that supports Apple Intelligence (macOS 26 / iOS 26). Where it is unavailable, the feature is simply turned off.

Apple's on-device model handling is governed by Apple's own platform privacy terms. We do not receive the content you process with it.

Information We Collect

Contact Data

The only personal information we receive is what you choose to send us. If you email us for support or feedback, we receive your email address and the contents of your message. We use this solely to respond to you. We never sell or rent this information.

App Preferences

Settings such as your theme choice (light or dark) and your recent files list are stored locally on your device so the App can restore your last session. These preferences stay on your device and are not transmitted to us.

How We Use the Data

Any information you send us by email is used only to provide support, respond to your questions, and improve the App based on your feedback. We do not use your documents or AI prompts for any purpose, because we never receive them.

Third-Party Services

MD Reader does not embed third-party advertising or tracking SDKs to operate its core features. The only third party involved in the AI feature is Apple, whose on-device Apple Intelligence models process your text locally under Apple's platform privacy terms. No personal information is exchanged with any AI server on our behalf.

Data Retention

Because your documents and AI prompts never leave your device, there is nothing for us to retain. Emails you send to support are kept only as long as needed to handle your request, after which they may be deleted.

Data Security

Your files are protected by the security of your own device and operating system. Any email correspondence with us is transmitted over your email provider's secure connection. No system is perfect, but because MD Reader does not collect or store your content on our servers, the exposure of your documents to us is eliminated by design.

Children's Privacy

MD Reader is a general-purpose reading and writing tool and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a minor has sent us information, contact us and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced inside the App or on this page before they take effect. Continued use of MD Reader after the update means you accept the revised policy.
